Sikeston Planning & Zoning approves rezoning, subdividing land for Cheryl Jones Estates

The Sikeston Planning and Zoning Commission approved rezoning and subdividing a tract of land during Tuesday’s meeting.

The land, 1.44 acres located on the southeast corner of W. Murray Lane and Roth Street, will be home to clustered housing for Bootheel Counseling Services. The housing will be for their clients, with some permanent housing and some transitional housing.

David Terrell, executive director of Bootheel Counseling Services, said they will be stick built (built on site using wooden frames), single family homes. There will be some two-bedroom homes but most will be one-bedroom homes. He said BCS will have oversight and will keep them maintained.

There will be seven units with one access point off Roth Street and it will be gated with a cul-de-sac. The cul-de-sac street will be called Steinmetz Way while the housing will be called Cheryl Jones Estates, honoring two previous executive directors of Bootheel Counseling Services.

Planning and Zoning unanimously approved rezoning the 1.44 acres from heavy industrial to single family residential and approved subdividing the 1.44-acre tract of land.

The issues will now go before Sikeston City Council for final approval.
