Time is running out for residents to recycle their real Christmas trees in the annual Christmas Tree Collection program.

Continuing through Sunday, Jan. 8, residents may take their real Christmas trees to the collection site on the southeast baseball quad parking lot, next to the Little League baseball fields, just off Campanella Drive in the Recreation Complex.

Please remove all decorations from the trees.

According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, the trees will provide good shelter for fish. Salvador Mondragon, MDC fisheries management biologist, said Christmas trees can easily be used to improve habitat in ponds, lakes, or even a backyard.

Mondragon said clusters of 15 to 20 trees provide good fish habitat.

“The trees will provide added brush that gives fish resting areas, shade, and places to hide from predators,” he said.
