Building Permit Information
Building permits are required for residential construction as well as commercial construction.
Residential Building Permits Required for shed, garage/carports, room additions, alterations, demolitions, and new construction
The procedure for obtaining a Residential Building Permit:
- Complete & submit a permit application. Permit Application Download
- Submit a site plan detailing the lot size, location of existing structures on said lot (if applicable), distance of proposed construction to all existing buildings on the lot, the distance of the proposed construction to the property lines [no smaller than letter size (8½ x 11) and no larger than ledger size (11 x 17)].
- Submit blueprint of structure (new homes and alterations/renovations). [no smaller than letter size (8½ x 11) and no larger than ledger size (11 x 17)].
- Provide estimate cost and square footage of the proposed project.
- Purchase building permit. Offices are located at City Hall, 105 E. Center St., Sikeston, MO 63801.

Commercial Building Permits Required for alterations, additions, renovations and construction of r-5 Multiple Family Dwellings, R-7 condominium Dwellings and all commercial projects.
The procedure for obtaining a Commercial Building Permit:
- Complete and submit a permit application. Permit Application Download
- Submit three (3) complete sets of sealed architectural plans, project manuals, and storm water management information.
- Include with the plans a cost breakdown for the entire project. Example below:
