Election Information
Any person desiring to become a candidate for council member shall file with the city clerk within the time prescribed by ordinance a statement of such candidacy. (City of Sikeston Municipal Code 2.84.090)
To be eligible for election, all candidates must be a qualified voter of Sikeston, and be at least 21 years of age. Ward candidates must be a resident of the ward for which they are filing for a period of at least 1 year immediately prior to the last day to file for election. Mayoral and at-large candidates must have been a resident of the City for at least 1 year immediately prior to their election.
Individuals interested in filing for a Council position must print out and complete a Declaration of Candidacy Form below and submit it to Carroll Couch, Sikeston City Clerk, 105 E. The final date for new party and independent candidates to submit their petitions to the Secretary of State is 5:00 p.m., July 26, 2010. Independent candidates for county offices and those wishing to form a new party within a county must submit their petition to the local election authority (county clerk or election board) by 5:00 p.m., July 26, 2010. (§115.329.1, RSMo).
