The City of Sikeston has a total of 14 parks in our park system, plus a municipal swimming pool.  The park system is supervised by a Parks and Recreation Director who works with a 9-member advisory Park Board.  Maintenance is provided by a 5-man Park Division under the direct supervision of a Parks Maintenance Supervisor.  Following is a listing of the City's park facilities. For a description, click on the name below.

ARMORY PARK - This a 2.41 acre park located behind the National Guard Armory bounded by Matthews St. on the north, Maple on the east, and Kathleen on the south.  Armory Park has playground equipment, picnic tables, park benches, and a drinking fountain.  back

CENTRAL PARK - This 3.77 acre park is located at the northwest corner of Edmondson and Prairie Streets.  This park has playground equipment, two lighted tennis courts, a drinking fountain, picnic tables, and one picnic shelter with a small charcoal grill. back

CLAYTON PARK - This is a 3.3 acre park on Butler Ave. at Dempster and Carroll Streets.  This park has playground equipment, picnic tables, a drinking fountain, and a large picnic shelter with two charcoal grills. back

DUDLEY PARK - A 6.37 acre facility located just off Applegate St., this park offers a good selection of playground equipment including a pre-school age modular system, two picnic shelters with charcoal grills, a restroom facility, a drinking fountain, an asphalt basketball court, and a small softball field. back

LEGION PARK - This small shaded park in downtown Sikeston, between E. Front St. and Malone Ave. has a paved center square with benches, a picnic table, a Veterans' monument, and a drinking fountain.  It is the site of various special event activities during Rodeo Week, and the location for the Cotton Festival of the Arts.  At Christmas, the center square is decorated with a special light tree. back

MALONE PARK - The City's oldest park, this 2.34 acre park is bounded by Scott and Stoddard Streets on the east and west, and North and Center Streets on the north and south.  It features playground equipment, park benches, picnic tables, a glider swing, drinking fountain, and a gazebo which is the site for numerous outdoor weddings each year. back

MARY LOU MONTGOMERY PARK - The City's newest park located on 5 acres on Illinois Ave. south of Fire Station #3 was donated by the Joel Montgomery family and named after his late wife.  It features a .4 mile walking trail, picnic shelter with charcoal grill, restroom facilities, modular playground equipment, and a swing set. back

R.S. MATTHEWS PARK / C.P. WING LAKE - The newest addition to the Park Division is R.S. Matthews Park, a 26-acre tract at the east end of Col. George Day Parkway, which was donated to the City by Scott Matthews and his sister Elizabeth Brunt.  It features a 7-acre fishing lake with a boat ramp (no gas motors allowed) and a 0.5+ mile walking track - with plans for a restroom, picnic shelters, and playground equipment.  The lake will be stocked by the Missouri Department of Conservation with catfish, bluegill, and bass. back

NORTH END PARK - This .59 acre triangular patch of ground at the north end of Hawthorn Dr. offers neighborhood walkers a shady respite on park benches.  It also has a bench swing.  back 

RECREATION COMPLEX - This is a 196-acre tract located between the airport and North Ingram Rd.  The City's most complete outdoor recreational facility, it offers a large selection of playground equipment including equipment for handicapped children, a tot lot for preschool children, four lighted tennis courts, two sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, six soccer fields (plus area in two ball diamond outfields which double as soccer fields), a Little League football field, four lighted Little League baseball fields, two unlighted T-ball fields, four lighted softball fields for men, women, and girls' programs, a lighted Junior Babe Ruth baseball field, two asphalt basketball courts, a 4.6 acre fishing lake that is stocked periodically during the year with catfish, a half-mile fitness trail with nine exercise stations with security lights, eight picnic shelters with charcoal grills (two of which are available for reservations), drinking fountains, picnic tables, seven restroom facilities, five concession stands, and an Honors Board recognizing volunteers for service to youth sports and recreation.  The Ray Clinton Community Building which is available on a rental basis for family reunions, business meetings, Christmas parties, anniversary/wedding receptions, civic club fundraisers, etc.  All reservations are on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Please call or come by City Hall to make a reservation for a shelter or the Clinton Building. back  

ROBERTA ROWE/WEST-END PARK - Stretched over 7.82 acres at the south ends of Alabama St. and Sunset Dr., this park area includes a lighted softball/baseball field, two lighted basketball courts, one unlighted basketball court, a picnic shelter with charcoal grill, drinking fountain, picnic tables, modular playground unit, swing set, restroom facility, and a quarter-mile walking trail.  Reservations for a picnic shelter is on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Please call or come by City Hall to reserve a shelter.  back

ROTARY PARK - This 11.5 acre park at the north end of Industrial Drive is the City's most popular spot for family reunions, church picnics, and company picnics.  This park, an on-going service project for the Rotary Club, features three picnic shelters, charcoal grills, picnic tables, drinking fountains, a restroom facility, playground equipment, horseshoe pits, a lighted softball field, and two sand volleyball courts.  A circle cinder drive .65 mile long that runs through the park is popular with walkers. Reservations for a picnic shelter is on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Please call or come by City Hall to reserve a shelter. back

VETERANS PARK - A 4.8 acre park, this facility was constructed and is maintained through the efforts of a volunteer Veterans' Park Committee without funding from the City.  It is dedicated to area veterans, featuring a large, lighted granite monument and flag display.  A brick walk leading from the parking lot to the memorial is inscribed with the names of veterans from the Sikeston area.  Of special interest to park visitors are the M-60 battle tank, an F4 Phantom jet, a 105mm Howitzer from WWII, and a U.S. Navy 1955 Sioux Helicopter (see photos below.)  A new addition to Veterans Park is a monument erected in honor of the Army National Guard soldiers of Charlie Company, 1140th Engineer Battalion. back

VFW MEMORIAL STADIUM - This lighted baseball facility sits on 7.14 acres just off Malone Ave. at Mitchell St.  The stadium features grandstands with aluminum bleachers with handicapped access, a restroom / concession stand, dugouts, a lighted scoreboard, batting cage, shaded press box, picnic tables, and a dressing room building.  This is the home field for Sikeston's high school, Legion, and Jr. Legion baseball teams. back

MUNICIPAL SWIMMING POOL - The YMCA is constructing a new indoor aquatic center as a part of its $6.5 million facility expansion/renovation project. The aquatic center will include a main pool area with 6 lanes and 25 yards. Another area of the pool will include a zero depth entry, children’s play area with water features and a 15 foot high water slide. In addition there will be an outdoor deck with privacy fence. 

Plans are to offer a wide variety of classes and programs to both "Y" Members and the general public. They will include swim lessons, water exercise, swim team, family swims, pool parties etc. There will also be regularly scheduled open swim times very similar to what has been offered at the Sikeston Jaycee pool in the past. These are likely to be offered daily during the summer months and on weekends during the school year.

It is anticipated that the new YMCA facility will be completed in December of 2008. back
