Two Names Added to the Honors Board

SIKESTON – Two more names will be added to the Honors Board in recognition of volunteer contributions to youth sports in Sikeston.

The Sikeston Park Board chose Mike Vaught and Frank Marshall for installation on the Honors Board at their March 8 meeting.

Vaught and Marshall will be the 37th and 38th individuals to have their names added to the board. Vaught joins a growing number of honorees in recent years who are second generation Honors Board inductees. Vaught’s father Paul was installed on the board previously for his contributions to Boy Scouts.

Since 1986, the Honors Board has recognized outstanding volunteers who have made significant contributions to youth programs in Sikeston including sports and Scouting.

Vaught coached soccer 16 years in the Sikeston Youth Soccer League, and has coached a travel team. He also managed and coached boys’ baseball and girls’ softball teams for six years. An avid bowler, Vaught organized and managed the youth bowling league for three years when the Sikeston Bowling Center re-opened in 1992 after an extended closure due to fire.

Marshall was a baseball and soccer dad coaching both sports, but he left his mark on both youth soccer and the Sharks Swim Team with his contributions to officiating for both programs. Earning his certification as a soccer referee, he volunteered as the referee coordinator for the Sikeston Youth Soccer League’s regular season and invitational tournament which included recruiting, scheduling, and training referees. He also volunteered as an official for the YMCA soccer program.

Marshall also became a certified swim official as a stroke judge, starter, and referee and volunteered his time to the Sikeston Sharks officiating and serving as official starter at their home meets.

Vaught and Marshall will have their bronze plaques installed on the Honors Board in a public ceremony on Wednesday, May 19 at 4:00 p.m. near the Ingram Road entrance to the Recreation Complex.
