 Saturday, October 10th, 2009  

Both the 13 mile and the 26 mile routes start at the historic train Depot in downtown Sikeston and move through town passing by shaded, tree-lines streets with majestic homes.  Leaving town, you travel along fields of cotton, as well as soybeans & corn.  The 26 mile route takes you by two working cotton gins.  One gin will offer free tours for the riders.

 
Things to know.......
  • This is a ride, not a race.  Ride at a rate appropriate to your training.
  • Same day registration is from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. under the tent by the Depot.
  • Mass start for both routes will begin at 9 a.m.
  • Ride starts and ends at the Depot.
  • Terrain is mostly flat.
  • Rest stops with water and snacks on both routes.
  • Helmets are required for ALL participants including children in bike seats and buggies.
  • SAG service will be provided.
  • Cyclists must obey all traffic rules.
  • Message board provided
  • Rider participation prizes-names will be drawn before & after ride. (Check message board.)
  • Entertainment provided at Depot at 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
  • Proceeds to benefit the Historic Midtown Development Group.

Spend the afternoon:

  • With a walking, driving, or cycling tour of Sikeston's historic homes

  • Picnicking at the Recreation Complex

  • Learning about cotton and Sikeston's history at the Depot Museum

  • Shopping downtown or at the Outlet Mall

  • Visiting one of our 14 city parks

  • Hiking at General Watkins Conservation Area (pdf)
