Any person
desiring to become a candidate for council member shall file with the
city clerk within the time prescribed by ordinance a statement of such
candidacy. (City of Sikeston Municipal Code
2.84.090)
To be eligible
for election, all candidates must be a qualified voter of Sikeston, and
be at least 21 years of age. Ward candidates must be a resident of
the ward for which they are filing for a period of at least 1 year
immediately prior to the last day to file for election. Mayoral
and at-large candidates must have been a resident of the City for at
least 1 year immediately prior to their election.
Individuals
interested in filing for a Council position must print out and complete
a Declaration of Candidacy Form below and submit it to Carroll Couch,
Sikeston City Clerk, 105 E. Center Street, Sikeston, MO 63801. A
$15 filing fee is required. For questions or more information,

The final date for new party and
independent candidates to submit their petitions to the
Secretary of State is 5:00 p.m., July 28, 2008.
Independent candidates for county offices and
those wishing to form a new party within a county
must submit their petition to the local election
authority (county clerk or election board) by 5:00
p.m., July 28, 2008 (§115.329.1, RSMo 2000)
